With the Artiste Invité label, the original concept of Aventures des Toiles is approached from a different angle:
one of research and experimentation. Here, it is the artist who is the central figure. The choice of medium is widened
to include artistic productions of very different types: installation, film, painting – the Artiste Invité label has many
irons in the fire.
For this line, the know-how of Aventures des Toiles is deliberately tested: the experience of the team is confronted with
the artist’s sensibilities to explore new ways of thinking and designing. The risk is very real: the Artiste Invité label
is daring, continually questioning the status quo.
For Winter 2011, the painter Thomas Fougeirol, represented by the Parisian gallery Praz-Delavallade, will be enjoying
the experience of Artiste Invité, creating a collection based on ink and silver colours.
The work behind the development of this line is a very large format painting which is typical of the artist’s preferred
working method: Thomas Fougeirol coats pieces of fabric with paint and presses them to the canvas before tearing
them off, leaving behind just the imprint. The black in his painting is obtained through saturation by accumulating
layer upon layer of blue ink.
Using this work as a basis for discussion, the artist and the Aventures des Toiles creative team worked for six months,
travelling between the Paris workshop and the studio in Burgundy, selecting colours and fabrics, discussing different
models, in order to design a completely original collection of thirty items with a clean cut style, reflecting the
material effects created by Thomas Fougeirol and the subtle touches of his palette.
